235-237 Fifth Avenue

The slender, faintly Gothic structure at 235-237 Fifth Avenue was designed by Trowbridge & Ackerman in 1911.  Planned as an 11-story structure, an amendment filed with the Department of Buildings during construction stated that the building would be topped off at seven stories with the additional floors to come at some future date.

For reasons that remain unclear the additional stories were never added, although development projects throughout the neighborhood suggest that the possibility of their eventual arrival should not be completely ruled out.
