Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger Open House, February 5th, 2014

On an icy Wednesday, February 5th, Landmark Branding was pleased to be among the resilient guests at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger’s Open House reception.  The distinguished engineering firm, which specializes in designing, investigating and rehabilitating structures and building enclosures, recently moved its New York office to a new floor-wide space at 550 Seventh Avenue, one of the city’s overlooked architectural treasures.  Famed for its high-end fashion clientele, the 1925 building is a trove of glittering Ravenna mosaics, Sullivanesque plaster and Art Deco metalwork by Gaston Lachaise that includes the 12 signs of the zodiac adorning the four elevators.

At the reception musicians played, hors d’oeuvres were passed and an open bar served the night’s signature cocktail – the SGH New Yorker (Vodka, tangerine juice, pomegranate juice, bitters, and a blood orange garnish).  Guests enjoyed dramatic views up Seventh Avenue to the flashing hub of Times Square and conversation with a diverse range of realtors, architects and developers.

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger’s national and international practice is supported by offices in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington DC. Their roster of past projects includes structural and building enclosure engineering for the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, preservation of the historic Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, comprehensive enclosure restoration of the magnificent New York State Capitol Building, and building enclosure design and materials testing for the new Baha’i Temple in Santiago, Chile.  We’re pleased to have had a chance to visit them in their new space!
