290 Fifth Avenue

— No CommentsA simple but effective example of the Free Classical style, 290 Fifth Avenue (seen on the left) consists of five stories of Chicago School-style windows with the whole building effectively “framed” by a Greek Key pattern in terra cotta tile. The ground floor has been altered, and a cornice may have been removed but neither detracts from the succinct balance of ancient and then-up-to-the-minute motifs.
The pleasant but relatively unassuming neighboring building to the north is, along with two others, being demolished for new development.
